Governance and Sustainable Development:
Promoting Collaborative Partnerships
At the invitation of the Ethiopian Government, the Third International Conference was held in Addis Ababa in June 2001, in the oldest and ever independent African country. In addition to the government, United Nations agencies, the Organization of African Unity, African Association for Public Administration and Management, and nongovernmental organizations joined together to convene this conference.
Ethiopian practitioners and academicians as well as other African officials played leading roles in planning and implementing the conference activities. The Prime Minister and the President of Ethiopia gave Keynote addresses. The third conference in Ethiopia, with more than 500 participants, surpassed the goals set for it and continues to be a sustaining legacy to the vision of professional capacity and full global partnership.
