Dana Michael Bruce, MPA, PhD.

Planned change, intervention, organization design and restructuring are the scholar-practitioner hallmarks of CIMPAD Board Member, Dana Michael Bruce, MPA, PhD. After many years working within the practitioner community Dr. Bruce successfully earned his Doctor of Philosophy in Organization Development from Benedictine University in 2018.

The title of his dissertation, “Appreciative Inquiry In Africa: A Content Analysis,” embodies a healthy assessment of academic research to advance the practitioner goals and objectives of Africans. The foundation of his dissertation research involved the evolution of Appreciative Inquiry (AI) in Africa through a content analysis of 100 journal articles published between 1984 and 2018. Appreciative Inquiry first emerged in 1984 in the United States as a sharp departure from traditional Organization Development (OD) interventions.

A number of studies have reported on the international application of AI works; however, this is the first study to focus on a comprehensive exploration of published AI works, particularly in African countries. Dr. Bruce looks forward to building CIMPAD’s Organization Development contributions to scholarship and practice in Africa on African terms.
